Leading advisor: prof. Eglė Ganda Bogdanienė; Reviewer: Malvina Jelinskaitė

Hanging or talking clothes? “Kabantys” or “kalbantys” - a word play in Lithuanian.  Do clothes hanging in your closet speak? At this exhibition they will be speaking in the voice of the author.

The author about the show: „ It‘s something very simple but extraordinary.”

Ieva Baltrenaite is questioning a connection between clothes and memories. She takes clothes from every day life and transforms them into pieces of art.

What message are our clothes sending? Are they a reflection of our lives? Maybe they are a mirror of our social, political, cultural, economic environment surrounding us? Or is the opposite, are we lying to ourselves and others by using them in such a different ways.

“Emotional experiences tend to get soaked up to the worn outfits like smoke. A piece of clothing becomes the main memory of emotions. One can put the clothes on and remember something pleasant, it helps to regain memories. It can also be, that after touching the fabric one understands that the clothing brings up bad memories, and he wants to get rid of both the garment and the rejuvenating pastures that come with it. ”- says Ieva Baltrėnaitė.

Have you ever thought that you can tell your family's history by clothes? Ieva, who has chosen the clothes of of four different generations in her family, tells not only their personal story, but also portrays pieces of history of the country. Wars, Soviet occupation and the present lie in the exposition of clothing as artifacts of artistic installation. A few worn clothes are a collection of stories of existence, love, death, hope and frustration, reflected in the life of every person.
