Exhibition "Signs" showcases black ceramic works by Vilnius Academy of Arts students, graduates and lecturers. Exhibition opens at 4 pm on 9th October at VAA Outdoor Expo, Maironio str. 6, Vilnius.

The project "Baltic Signs in Ceramics: From the Past to the Future", prepared in collaboration with the Open- Air Museum of Lithuania, Vilnius Academy of Arts and Vilnius University, aimed to foster ethnic culture and ancestral culture, promote community by revealing the peculiarities and characteristics of the Baltic Patterns in ceramics to the young generation and modern society.

The sharing of professional ceramics artists’ Teresė Jankauskaitė long-term experience with the young generation stimulated their interest and nurturing the traditions of black ceramic and at the same time inspired their research of the new artistic possibilities with this material in the field of design.

The main highlight of the exhibition "Signs", which exhibits works created by students, graduates and lecturers of the Vilnius Academy of Arts, is BLACK CERAMICS and SUSTAINABILITY. The works on display here are made from one of the most sustainable and ecological local raw materials - red clay. The whole work process - one firing, capacitive loading, wastes from wood production used for firing, low firing temperature, the surface of the product is unglazed and the preservation of traditions, - it is an opportunity to create high-quality, long-lasting, low-circulation products.

The actualization/awareness of the Baltic Patterns, creative transformations in black ceramics by combining form, pattern, function also highlights the continuity of ceramics as a local tradition, using creative innovative solutions, technologies and the search for sustainable design. The black surface color meets the needs of modern design.

The idea author, initiator and coordinator of this project -Neringa Grigarienė, the graduate of Art Management at VU KnF, hopes that the actualized topic will contribute to the fostering cultural heritage, the formation of the young generation aesthetic taste and the pride of Lithuania, its culture.
