Textile Art Media (LT, EN)

Currently, in global artistic and industrial textile fields radical changes are taking place, which open up new perspectives and fields of activity.

In this context, the role of a textile artist-researcher is very significant and highly needed. In our society there is a clear need for textile art specialists with a university education, who have mastered a wide spectrum of creative methods applied in textile industry, are able to use traditional and contemporary textile techniques in a universal, flexible and conceptual way, understand the context of this multidisciplinary field of art not only from a practical but also from a theoretical point of view. In the field of art and culture TD graduates join not only the ranks of professional art exhibition participants and educators, but those of creators as well. Practical and analytical skills acquired during master’s studies are a big advantage in contemporary art practice based on conceptuality and multidisciplinarity as well as use of various textile technologies and media.

Versatility and flexibility and not the acquired subject-specific skills, perceived through mastering of craft and its peculiarities, are the qualities that determine the demand and are especially relevant for young professionals in the constantly changing multicultural art field and job market. Therefore, this study programme was created in order to develop these qualities. Textile Art Media master’s study programme is oriented at preparing artists, who base their creation on analytical-critical thinking, respond to contemporary reality by combining subject-specific knowledge with social-humanities subjects. These artists are able to apply technological and theoretical subject-specific knowledge and skills in interdisciplinary, conceptual art and science, publically and socially engaged art projects as well as textile industry applied projects.

It is important to prepare creative individual-textile artist and textile artist-practitioner, who are able to work together with creative from other disciplines and lead on creative projects. Therefore, in order to implement these aims, regular discussions and consultations with different specialists, professionals and experts of various fields take place on a regular basis throughout the study programme. This helps students to demonstrate their rhetorical skills providing them with an opportunity to present their ideas, projects and other works.
