Viltė Žumbakytė, Art residency in Germany, 2019

Lehniner Institut für Kunst und Kultur

In 2019 I participated in the Artist-in-Residence Program at the Lehniner Institut für Kunst und Kultur, Germany, initiated by Audan Kunststiftung and LIKK.
Living in a remote place inspired me to focus on various surfaces, textures, lights and the colors of nature. I enjoyed being in the forest, moving tree branches or walking along the shore of the lake. I wanted to become at one with the landscape I walked through. For me, this was my first art residency, and for the organizers, I was the first resident who participates in this program.

Living in a more remote place inspired me to focus on a various surfaces, textures, lights, colors of nature. I wanted to become the landscape I walk through. I enjoyed being in the forest, moving tree branches or walking along the shore of the lake and just be in the flow.

During the two months there, I started to develop my ongoing creative project 'Textures' which consists of a series of charcoal drawings and soundworks based on monochrome graphic and sound textures.

LIKK is a particularly beautiful place to live and create, where I had the opportunity to see all the artistic processes of the institute from the inside and to feel a part of its creative scene. I received support in developing my project and preparing a solo exhibition and got the chance to participate in the international one-week sculpture symposium. These experiences encouraged me to search for new ways to develop my creative process. I feel very lucky to have been there.

I just feel very lucky that I was there - something incredible.
