4/2/2020-22/2/2020 Ida-Lovisa Rudolfsson (Sweden) exhibition "Ode To The Mended" at the VAA gallery „Artifex“

Stitch by stitch I attach my thoughts to the cotton fabric, it is for me an absolute significant and prerequisite thing to do. Embroidering is a way of thinking. I need the time, the loneliness and the monotonous slow work to sort, understand and bring order in my world of thoughts. It is out of the sorting, the survey and the desire to get things to clear, my images grow. The pictures are like a puzzle, pieces fall into place, get cut away and become seeds for another story, in that way my work whirls away in different directions.

In the exhibition Ode To The Mended Ida-Lovisa Rudolfsson presents textile collages - embroidered and painted patchworks. The artworks are from the last three years and the large artwork Do You Hear The Rain she made for her exhibition at Gothenburg Art Museum 2016. Do You Hear The Rain is an homage to Jessica Dubroff, the 7-year old girl who 1996 tried to beat the record as being the youngest pilot to fly across the North American continent. It is an aclaim for those who dared, for those who succeeded and for those who never came home.

Ida-Lovisa Rudolfssons work is characterized by an emotionally charged image world. Fragments from everyday situations or environments are often linked with symbols of escape, anxiety or disappearance. The detailed pictures tell us about everyday situations that have turned into something else, something strange and secretive.

Ida-Lovisa Rudolfsson, born 1979 in Sweden, lives on the island Orust on the Swedish westcoast. She graduated from the School of Design and Crafts in Gothenburg 2010 with a MFA in Textile Art and have since her debut solo show 2010 done several separate exhibitions, big group exhibitions and has also participated in interesting major international exhibitions. 2016 she represented Sweden at the 15th International Triennial of Tapstery in Poland Lodz and 2018 she attended The 6th Riga International Textile and Fiber Art Triennial. For her willful and engaging work in textile art Ida-Lovisa Rudolfsson was awarded the grand scholarship from Sten A Olsson Foundation for Research and Culture in 2016. Besides that she has received several scholarships, for example Young Artists, Aplied Art, from The Swedish Nationalmuseum 2014 and latest the 5-year work scholarship from The Swedish Arts Grants Committee 2019.
