The main purpose of the faculty, which was founded in 2011, is to make the role of artistic and scientific research more important in the study process and to train artists and scientists proficient in research. The faculty is trying to make sure that studies and research in a higher education school would complement each other. The quality of studies and their contents are being improved by using analysis data and the qualification of researchers working in the faculty. The faculty encourages interdisciplinarity, joint work, studies and projects by students and lecturers of different specialties.
At the moment, fifteen programs in the fields of architecture, art, design, culture management, history and theory of arts are present in the faculty. The faculty administrates three doctoral programs. Among them are programs of art and design, unique in the Baltic states. Doctoral studies are held together with the VAA Institute of Art Theory and History, the Lithuanian culture research institute, VAA Nida doctoral school and the Aalto university.
The students of the faculty have the opportunity to communicate with laureates of the Lithuanian National Culture and Art prize or the Lithuanian science prize. Creative workshops and seminars are continually held by professors of higher education schools and famous artists from abroad.
